Right Brain designs and produces social experiences that expand how people live, connect, and participate in creativity. Through gatherings that bring together art, music, food, and adventure, we create environments where creativity is not observed—but lived.
Right Brain is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that designs and produces social experiences that expand how people live, connect, and participate in creativity. Our work brings people together through shared experiences—whether in motion, in nature, or in social settings—where creativity becomes part of everyday life.
Right Brain activities include:
Right Brain is designed for anyone who wants to live a more connected, creative life—not just artists.
Right Brain originated within the Ferleman Gallery ecosystem and remains closely connected to Gallery Stage and RootsTable in Cumberland, Maryland. These spaces serve as a central hub for programming—bringing together art, music, dining, and social experience in a unified environment.
At the same time, Right Brain is not confined to a single venue. Its activities extend beyond the gallery into the surrounding region and beyond—through outdoor experiences, group activities, and destination-based gatherings such as runs, rides, hikes, and ski trips.
Right Brain is designed to be both place-based and mobile—rooted in Cumberland, while creating experiences wherever people come together to connect, explore, and participate in creative life.
Right Brain operates on a consistent weekly rhythm, complemented by seasonal experiences that evolve throughout the year.
Each week, Right Brain offers a balanced cycle of experiences—bringing together movement, social connection, and creative engagement. Recurring activities such as running clubs, cycling groups, social gatherings, art shows, and hands-on lessons create a dependable cadence that allows people to participate regularly and build community over time.
This weekly rhythm is shaped by the seasons. Warmer months emphasize outdoor experiences like running, cycling, and hiking, while colder seasons introduce indoor gatherings, art-focused programming, lessons, and winter excursions such as ski trips. These seasonal shifts keep programming dynamic and aligned with how people naturally live and gather throughout the year.
In addition to this weekly cycle, Right Brain hosts select larger and destination-based experiences at key moments, creating immersive opportunities that bring the community together in deeper ways.
Right Brain offers a mix of member-based, individual fee-based, and free experiences in order to balance accessibility with sustainability.
Some activities are included as part of a membership model, providing consistent access to recurring experiences such as weekly runs, group activities, and select social gatherings. This approach encourages ongoing participation and community building.
Other experiences—particularly specialized events, lessons, workshops, and destination-based outings—are offered on a per-event basis. Fees for these activities are determined by the scope of the experience, including materials, instruction, logistics, and production.
Right Brain also offers a range of free and open-access events to ensure that participation in creative life remains broadly accessible. These experiences serve as entry points for new participants and help foster an inclusive and engaged community.
This tiered approach allows Right Brain to remain both accessible and sustainable, while continuing to design high-quality experiences that support participants and creators alike.
Right Brain integrates the arts across its full range of activities rather than separating them into standalone programs. Creative engagement is embedded within social, outdoor, and community experiences, as well as through dedicated art-focused programming such as exhibitions, shows, and arts lessons.
As a result, a significant portion of Right Brain’s time and resources—estimated at approximately 40–60%—is directly tied to arts-based activities, with the remainder supporting the broader infrastructure that enables participation, community building, and experiential programming.
This model reflects Right Brain’s belief that the arts are most impactful when they are part of how people live and connect, rather than confined to isolated events or institutions.
We love the arts, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
